FACE Garden Gig 2018

Our fabulous Garden Gig is part of the Furzedown Festival’s Summer of Love and will be a great chance to relax in a beautiful garden and listen to amazing singers and musicians while enjoying a delicious gourmet BBQ (BYO drinks & glasses).

Dr Rosena opens TYA chill-out room

For over 5 years FACE has been supporting the development of a special unit in St Georges that will uplift the experiences of children and young adults while they are in hospital being treated for cancer, by creating a special zone for relaxation, communication, and enjoyment. A specialist nurse advocate (funded by MacMillan Nurses) will be based in the room to support young people.

The chill-out room was officially opened on 18th September by our local MP Dr Rosena Allin-Khan with St George’s staff, governers and members of FACE – it was great to hear from a young patient about how much this will mean to them and staff who will be working there.

 

This was only possible thanks to all the fundraising efforts locally; including Graveney School and FCN. This successful outcome demonstrates what a caring and brilliant community we live in. By uniting efforts from individuals, families, schools, organisations, and enterprises in and around Furzedown we can make such a difference and have helped make this dream become a reality.

WIN a Mark Warner ski holiday

Our friend at Mark Warner has donated an amazing prize for us to raffle!

A fantastic ski holiday worth up to £5000, including flights and half board accommodation and we are selling tickets now! The lucky winner will be drawn at the Moyser Road Winter Market on Saturday 14 December and we’ll be selling the last of the lucky numbers when the market starts at 4.30pm so please come along!

FACE Featured!

We’ve been featured in the local issue of The Resident’s Journal, more than we’d thought – a whole double page spread. We’re a bit embarrassed but proud too, and of course we could have done nothing without the support of everyone in Furzedown!

FACE Raffle tickets now on sale!

We have some fantastic prizes this year including an exclusive meal in the Gherkin – something money can’t buy as it is a members only club! Also a trip to the Houses of Parliment with our MP Sadiq Khan to have tea on the terrace with him.

There will also be a chance to win a Fossil watch worth £100, (winner can choose the male or female version) donated by Schroder of Wallingdon. And a two course meal with wine and live entertainment at the wonderful Hideaway Jazz Club – voted the nation’s premier Jazz Club.

Local businesses have also been very generous with Wink offering a hair cut and head massage, Nikki’s ironing services has donated £50 worth of ironing. And her son who runs a plumbing company called MEAN maintenance has offered a free gutter inspection and gutter clean worth £100.

A local family has donated two tickets for the London Duck tours which will be great fun for the lucky winner! and there are many more great prizes to be won…

Countdown to the Big Event!

Only a week to go to the FACE Charity Ball. 

We’ve got some great prizes for our auction and to be won on the night: The star lot will be a pair of beautiful diamond earrings offered by Shroder of Wallington.

There are also tickets to Goodwood, a hamper of Heyland & Whittle goodies, a lovely painting by Lucinda Denning (below), tea on the terrace with Sadiq Khan, afternoon tea at any Handpicked hotel and some delicious restaurant prizes.

Big cheque for St George’s Hospital

We went over today to present a cheque for £3000 to St George’s Hospital to Consultant Dr Nick Hyde and Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse June Allen. We were made very welcome and had a good chat!

They are all looking forward to the new appointment starting in April which will help teens and young adults receiving cancer treatment in the hospital. Every year over 150 young people between 16 and 24 go to St George’s so there is a real need!

If you throw it will they come?

Throw a ball that is… the answer seems to be yes, despite these hard financial times there is a lot of enthusiasm for our Charity Ball next month. We had heated discussions about what to charge, with some people worried that £75 was too much but others pointing out that similar events often charge over £100 – and because of the prestigious central London venue and the fact it includes a three course meal with drinks and a fantastic band playing it was really good value for money!
We have just about reached 100 tickets sold now, which means we’re already making money for our charities and we hope that lots more people will come – especially from the local area – to make this event HUGE!

Auctioneer needed!

One thing we don’t have is an auctioneer – we’ll be offering 10 great lots to help raise money for St Georges Hospital and MNDA, including tickets to Goodwood and diamond earrings – but it takes skill and it would be great if anyone can offer any suggestions about who could help!
